Kestrel high 'D' Walnut with Turquoise
Our Kestrel Flute in the high-tone key of 'D' minor (440 Hz) is made from domestic Black Walnut, which is hand finished with non-toxic oils to give it a clear, bright voice. This flute features Turquoise stone inlay, which add to the decorative beauty the instrument while also enhancing the functional art quality of the instrument.
This flute is tuned to the key of "D" minor, and it can also be played in the relative major diatonic scale in the key of "F".
Our high-tone flutes are a great instrument for drum circles because their higher pitch allows them to beautifully stands out among lower-tone instruments.
In general the key of 'D' is often recognized because it is the primary key of Penny Whistles, which adds to the versatility of the Kestrel 'D' for pairing with other instruments and musical styles.
The compact size of our Kestrel Flutes make them an ideal choice for those wanting to use their flutes for travel or outdoor activities such as hiking or backpacking. The Kestrel 'D' is approximately 15 inches (38 cm) in length.
This is a 6-hole flute. We cover the 3rd hole from the top, known as the 6th hole, with a leather hole cover so you have the option to play it as a 5-hole flute (which tends to make the learning process easier) or as a 6-hole flute.
We've named this flute after the American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) which is one of the smallest and most common falcon birds found in North America.

1. Prepare — Trim the wick to 5mm before each burn. Remove all packaging and place on a heat-safe surface away from drafts.
2. First burn — Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges on your first use (approx. 2 hours). This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn for the life of the candle.
3. Enjoy — Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
4. Care — Once finished, clean the vessel with warm soapy water and repurpose as a storage jar, planter, or glassware.
We started Apothecary because we believed your home deserved better than synthetic fragrance and mass-produced wax. Most candles on the market are made with paraffin — a petroleum by-product — and loaded with artificial fragrance that can trigger headaches, allergies, and that familiar "chemical" smell.
We wanted something different: a candle that fills a room slowly, honestly, with scent that feels like it belongs there. That's why every Amber Candle is hand-poured in small batches using a coconut-soy blend, scented with a proprietary amber and resin accord that took over a year to develop.
Burn time matters too. We designed the Amber Candle to reach a full melt pool within the first two hours, which means no tunnelling, no wasted wax, and a consistent scent throw every time you light it.
This candle isn't just a product. It's what we'd want in our own homes.

How long does the Amber Candle burn?
Approximately 50 hours with proper care — trimming the wick to 5mm before each burn and not exceeding 4-hour burn sessions.
What wax is used?
A coconut-soy blend. We chose this combination for its clean burn, excellent scent throw, and renewable sourcing. No paraffin, no petroleum.
Is it safe to burn around pets?
Our fragrance is free from known pet-toxic ingredients, but we always recommend burning in a well-ventilated space. Keep candles physically out of reach of all animals at all times.
